Las Vegas Phlebology Vein Therapy – Preventing Venous Ulcers and Smoothing the Legs

Varicose veins are those nasty looking enlarged and swollen bluish veins you see protruding just below the surface of the skin and which are more commonly seen in the legs and ankles. Variscose veins are our enemy , not because they are particularly serious, they are uncomfortable and unattractive and they can sometimes lead to other problems.

But what causes veins to weaken and enlarge? Varicose veins and those much smaller spider veins can occur in men or women of varying ages. A family history of varicose veins and old age can increase one’s tendency to get them. Weakness of valves in the veins can result in poor venous circulation.

Faulty Circulation Causes Blood to Pool in the Veins

When you’ve got healthy veins, the valves prevent the blood from flowing back. They open and close so that the blood can only flow in one direction. With weakened valves, the blood is allowed to flow back and accumulate in the veins, resulting in what is known as varicose veins. Varicose veins can also be caused from an ailment known as phlebitis which is inflammation of the veins or from blood clots. Things such as diet, weight management, regular exercise and the wearing of support hosiery can help to bring some kind of relief. Having a job where you are required to stand for long periods of time can also increase the pressure on veins in the legs.

Take Steps before Complications Develop

It is important to get attention for varicose veins before complications develop. Where the proper flow of blood is jeopardized, there is always the risk of complications. Thrombophlebitis is a threat. This is where blood clots form in the vein of the leg, resulting in inflammation of the vein. The affected area can become, red, painful and feel warm. Chronic venous insufficiency is when the skin doesn’t properly exchange nutrients, oxygen and waste products with the blood because the flow of blood is too weak. This is known as chronic venous insufficiency.

People with this ailment can develop venous ulcers. These ulcers are caused by poor blood circulation from the legs. The first sign of a venous skin ulcer is skin that turns a reddish, purple colour over the area where the blood is leaking out of the vein. Sometimes the skin becomes dry, thick and itchy.

How Foam Sclerotherapy Works?

One of the best benefits is that with foam sclerotherapy, treatments aren’t performed in an operating theater and very little discomfort is experienced. No anesthetic or sedation is required and this a huge advantage for those wishing to avoid the risks of surgery. Certainly studies have shown that foam sclerotherapy is the most effective way of treating varicose veins which have come back after previous surgery.

Anyone with exceptionally large veins with brown discolouration of the skin may require surgery, but patients with moderate size varicose veins can be treated very successfully with foam sclerotherapy. With foam treatment, a needle is put into the main affected surface vein. Sometimes a small amount of local anesthetic may be used for discomfort. The foam is injected whilst watching its progress using the ultrasound machine. The varicose veins in the leg are checked to ensure the foam has entered from the main surface vein where the injection was given. Some further injections are given through a tiny needle to ensure all the varicose veins have been completely injected.

Far Quicker and Less Riskier than Surgery

Compared to varicose vein surgery, this entire treatment lasts not much longer than half an hour. Once foam sclerotherapy is done, a bandage is applied to the leg to keep the veins compressed. This is to ensure they don’t fill with blood when the patient stands up. It is worn for about a week or so and an elastic compression stocking should be worn for a further week. Patients aren’t able to believe it when they come to their follow-up appointment and find their varicose veins gone. Any small lumps that are felt at this stage slowly disappear within the next week.

There are not many medical professions who are experienced in this treatment. Dr Bashy is highly sought after with his expertise in foam sclerotherapy, and with his superior treatments, his great customer care and restful environment, you’ll discover why these treatments are one of the most successful word-of-mouth treatments that will also make you feel a lot more confident.
